Blade Runner 2049 illustration cover Art for “Cine Story” magazine

(EN) The French magazine “Ciné Story” specialized in movie & cinéma, commissioned me an Artwork about “Blade Runner 2049” to use on the cover of their August/September/October N°6 issue. I’m pretty honored and happy they reached me and asked me to work on this illustration as I love the “Blade Runner” visuals, movie and atmosphere. They asked me to design an illustration / digital painting based on the new movie starring Ryan Gosling (officer K) and Harrison Ford who’s playing (Rick Deckard). The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve who previously directed the great movies “Prisoners” and “Arrival”. For the Artwork, I decided to select a composition that would be similar to an Alternative Movie Poster. The first plan would present a portrait of the 2 mains characters. For the background, I decided to represent the futuristic city and night / rainy atmosphere present in the 1st movie and that is also present in the new movie. This typical futuristic city filled with neon lights contributed to give to the original movie its own identity. I wanted to include in the colors of this poster a similar mood to recall and stick with this specificity.

I adapted the layout so it can be integrated into the cover page of the magazine. You can see just below the Alternative movie poster, and illustration which was done for the magazine as well as some pictures of the printed magazine that is now available in France in booksellers.

I’m very glad that Cine Story made to choice to communicate with an illustration instead of a classic “photo shoot” and press posters. The specific colors and brushstrokes as well as the graphic style, hand drawn look is contributing to gives to the magazine a specific look that differs from the photographic look, I think it makes the visual more original and unique compared to the many magazines who are using principally photographs on their covers.

This Artwork was created with a Wacom graphic tablet and the software Adobe Photoshop cc + Adobe Illustrator cc.
